Consuelo Hernández (born 1952) is a Colombian /U.S. poet, scholar, literary critic and Associate Professor of Latin American studies at American University since 1995. She has received an "Antonio Machado" Award for the poem "Polifonía sobre rieles" among participants from 29 countries. Madrid, Spain, October 17, 2011. She is a finalist at the International poetry contest of "Ciudad Melilla" in Spain and at the concurso "Letras de Oro" at the University of Miami. In 2003 she received an award from the Salvadoran Consulate in New York for her poetry work. In 2005 her poetry collection ''Manual de peregrina'' was included in the Special Library’s collection at American University. She has read her poetry in places such as the International Poetry Festival of Medellín, Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Haskell Center. Folger Shakespeare Library, La Fundación Pablo Neruda in Chile, Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, New York University, University of Kentucky, City University of New York, University of Pecs in Hungary,and many other venues. Her poetry has been included in numerous anthologies in Latin America, Europe, Canada and the United States. A worldwide traveler, since 1977 she left her native Colombia, lived in several countries and has visited more than thirty.
